Do Something Good.
This message goes out to the countless parents, children and families who have lived the childhood cancer experience ...
For a while now, I've had this crazy notion that my purpose here on earth was to serve as an advocate for all children and families whose lives have been disrupted by this terrible disease ...
As a father to two beautiful, vibrant healthy boys, I wake up every single day wanting nothing more than to eradicate this experience from your lives, if for no other reason than both you (as parents and family members) and your children (as patients and innocent victims) deserve to know that, unbeknownst to you, there are many individuals who go to bed every single night praying to God that He would empower us with His Grace, Glory and Wisdom so that we could find a means by which to bring this difficult ordeal to an end for you and your respective families ...
In my effort to do my part and shine the brightest of bright lights on your story, my thought of late has been to breathe into existence what, for lack of a better term, I have deemed a National Hall of Champions for Kids With Cancer ...
Rather than focus on what I consider to be a mass commercial exploitation of this illness, my purpose in creating such a memorial would be to highlight the extraordinary courage, humility and strength of character of all who have bravely walked this extraordinary journey, be they patients, parents, family members or extended caregivers ...
The reason for this post is simple ... recently, I have been led to consider the possibility that, in spite of my best intentions, maybe this initiative is not something that childhood cancer patients and families would consider as either relevant or appropriate ...
To wit, if I may ask a favor, please let me know if creating a 'Hall of Champions' is something that you, as individuals who have lived this experience, would consider a worthy gesture by which to highlight and memorialize all that is kind, caring, compassionate and loving about these extraordinary individuals ...
That said, if you believe that my efforts in this regard would result in creating more pain and agony for your children and families, please be open and honest with me in your feedback, and I will discontinue any and all present and future considerations in support of this endeavor ...
For those of you whom have graciously read this message, Thank You So Very Much for lending me the courtesy of your extremely valuable time and attention ...
Please know that while we may have never met, I love you all very much and will continue to pray for you and your respective families now and forevermore ...
#StandStrongInFaith ... ALWAYS ... God Bless ...
Your Friend For Life,
Michael G Velázquez ...
