Remote Family Assistants for Parents Caring for Children with Cancer
Launching in early 2023
Remote family assistants—also known as virtual family assistants—perform many of the tasks traditionally performed by on-site family assistants, so that you can make time for your loved ones by offloading family and caregiving tasks to a remote family assistant.
Tasks You Can Delegate to Your Remote Family Assistant
Household Management & Caregiving-related Tasks
Emotional support (non-medical, non-psychological in nature)
Family inbox, social media management for general updates
Preparing communication updates for individuals and groups
Managing household budgets
Online bills payment
Scheduling home maintenance and repairs
Shopping for essentials online
Planning and shopping for groceries
Managing calendars and scheduling appointments (including cancelation and rescheduling if needed)
Manage bookings and reservations
Performing miscellaneous errands online
How it works
We lay the foundation in Month #1.
Week 1.
Step 1. Parents are matched with a remote family assistant
Step 2. Set up a Zoom call to discuss communication plan with prioritized support tasks
Step 3. Set up a follow-up Zoom call to further discuss existing resources, processes, and local resources as needed
Step 4. A preliminary plan to test and move forward with, including weekly call schedule (day and time)
Week 2.
Put the plan to test and adjust as needed
Openly and kindly discuss what works and how certain areas can be improved
Week 3.
Find the rhythm and partnership between parents and remote family assistant
Week 4.
Celebrate month #1. How did it go?
For parents and caregivers: have you noticed any change in you and your family dynamics in month 1? How can you leverage your family assistant more or less?
For remote family assistant: what did you learn in month #1?
